Sen. Hutchison says no one thing led to McCain’s defeat

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison said Wednesday she doesn’t think “any one thing” caused Tuesday’s Republican defeat and said it’s time for the GOP “to retool.” And the Texas Republican pointedly side-stepped a question about Sarah Palin’s future role in the GOP, declaring “i think there are going to be new faces in the Republican party over the next four years.” The questiuoner noited that, oin the day the Alaska goivernor was initially picked, her first reaction was that she didn’t know much about her. “I think it’s time to retool,” the Texas Republican said on MSNBC, adding that the GOP needs to re–establish its strength at the grass roots and make itself the party of small business and education opportunity. And in what sounded very much like a slap at the way Republicans ran this year’s campaign, she said, “I don’t think robo-calls are going to do it any more.” Automated phone calls were a principal GOP weapon in trying unsuccessfullly to convince voters that Democrat Barack Obama was unsuited to be president. One subject not discussed: Ms. Hutchison’s desire to run for governor and possible resignation from the Senate next year in order to do so..
